Kiley's Planning Bio

The Proposal

Saturday, January 19, 2008 was planned as just another night out.  Corey had to “work” (or so he claimed) during the day and told me to be ready by 3:00 for our dinner date (I figured it must be a pretty fancy place if we had to leave at 3:00 for dinner reservations).

We arrived in Laguna Beach, California around 3:30.  Corey suggested we take a walk on the beach, since we were a little early for our dinner reservations.  He brought with him a large, turquoise gift bag (this crushed all hope for an engagement ring… he wouldn’t keep a little ring in that big bag!).  We found a private spot on the beach and sat down to watch the sunset on that beautiful California evening.  I asked if I could open my present, and Corey said, only if you open your card first.  At the end of the card it said… “I only have one question to ask you…”.  I glanced over and saw Corey digging in his pockets for something...  then here he was on one knee, holding the most perfect engagement ring!  We celebrated with champagne he had brought, called our parents and then made our way to dinner.

After dinner at an amazing little restaurant, we began to make our way back to the car.  Corey suggested we stop in a local pub and have a drink.  Once we arrived inside, I noticed all of our California friends were waiting for us!  It was such a touching moment, knowing he had planned all of this behind my back (I am not easy to surprise!).  After kicking back with our friends for an hour or so, Corey whisked me away to The Montage in Laguna Beach (the most amazing hotel!) to find a candle-lit room where we could relax and continue celebrating our special day.
